The Western Paradise (also known as the Western Pure Land, Sukhavati) is the Buddha-land of Amitabha (Infinite Life Buddha). Its core characteristic is the absence of all suffering and the experience of only joy, in stark contrast to our 'enduring' (Saha) world. Located in the west of our world, ten trillion Buddha-lands away (Amitabha Sutra). Main Buddha: Amitabha Buddha (Infinite Light, Infinite Life), who constantly preaches the Dharma; flanked by Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva and Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, collectively known as the 'Three Sages of the West'. Land Environment: Adorned with Seven Treasures, flawless. Ground: Gold as the ground, flat, soft, bright, and clean, without mountains, rivers, ravines, thorns, or stones. Seven Treasure Ponds and Eight Merit Waters: Seven treasure ponds everywhere (gold, silver, lapis lazuli, crystal, tridacna, red pearl, agate). The water possesses eight merits: sweet, cold, soft, light, clear, fragrant, thirst-quenching, and heart-nourishing. Golden sand at the bottom, seven-treasure pathways, and lotuses in the pond as large as wheels, emitting blue, yellow, red, and white light. Architecture: Seven-treasure pavilions, palaces, and lecture halls, floating in the air, changing size at will, transparent and bright, countless times better than the heavenly realms. Precious Trees and Heavenly Music: Seven rows of trees, seven rows of railings, seven rows of nets, all made of four treasures. The wind blows through the trees and nets, producing subtle Dharma sounds like hundreds of thousands of instruments playing together, naturally leading listeners to mindfulness of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Climate and Heavenly Rain: No heat or cold, no wind or rain, always mild and comfortable; Mandarava flowers rain down from the sky six times a day and night, fragrant and colorful. Marvelous Birds: White cranes, peacocks, parrots, Kalavinkas, etc., all manifested by the Buddha to produce harmonious sounds proclaiming the Dharma. Sentient Beings: No suffering, only joy, infinite lifespan. Rebirth: Beings are born from lotus flowers in the seven treasure ponds, not from parents, free from the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death. Appearance: Purple-gold bodies, majestic and solemn, similar to Amitabha Buddha; possessing five supernatural powers: heavenly eye, heavenly ear, telepathy, past-life recall, and spiritual travel, free and unobstructed. Lifespan: Immeasurable kalpas, nearly eternal, without early death or aging. Nature: All are superior good people, free from greed, anger, ignorance, jealousy, or conflict; compassionate, equal, wise, and pure, constantly hearing the Dharma. Life: Clothing and food manifest naturally without labor; in the morning, one can visit ten trillion Buddha-lands to offer to Buddhas and return by mealtime. Time and Space: Infinite and Eternal. Time: No day or night, no months or years, eternal happiness; the world does not undergo the changes of formation, existence, decay, and void. Space: Vast and boundless, never crowded even with beings from all ten directions; a single grain of dust can contain three thousand great worlds.
